As automakers such as Ford continue to invest in new electric vehicles, drivers are considering the pros and cons of going electric. The developing Ford electric technology has many advantages, such as the obvious ones of fuel-efficiency and environmental friendliness, but are there areas in which ICE, or Internal Combustion Engines, still have an edge?

Here at Bill Colwell Ford, our dealers explain the advantages and disadvantages of both engine options.

Electric Ford Cars – Pros and Cons

Because Ford electric cars are still a new technology, many Hudson drivers wonder what it’s like to actually own an electric car. First of all, charging times vary depending on the type of charger that you use:

  • Level 1 chargers use a standard household outlet and charge about two to five miles of range per hour. They are a good choice for plug-in hybrids but not EVs.
  • Level 2 chargers are a great choice for EVs. They are installed at your home by a professional and charge about 10 to 20 miles of range per hour.
  • Level 3 chargers are a high-end option. They charge about 60 to 80 miles of range in about 20 minutes.

Here are some of the pros of owning an electric car:

  • Federal tax credit
  • Low cost to own
  • Quick and quiet ride
  • Save at the pump

ICE Cars – Pros and Cons

The biggest reasons why driver still choose ICE cars are lower cost to purchase and increased performance. While EV cars are making huge strides in power and dropping in cost, if you want Ford pickup truck towing and hauling power, ICE-powered vehicles are still a better choice. However, that may be changing in the coming years, as Ford continues to innovate with its electric car lineup.

Test-drive both an electric Ford car and an ICE Ford car right here at Bill Colwell Ford to discover which one is right for you.
