Car Warranty 101

Simply put, a car warranty is a repair contract limiting an owner’s out-of-pocket costs for service and repairs for a set length of time. New vehicles typically come with a limited warranty that guarantees service and repairs of defects, most often for a term of three years/36,000 miles.

Guide to Ford Warranty Coverage

When you buy a new Ford car, it will come with a variety of different types of warranty coverage. These are the different types of Ford warranties.

  • Collision Warranty: While nobody wants to be involved in a collision, the Collision Warranty offers excellent coverage in the event of an accident.
  • Emissions Defect Warranty: The Emissions Defect Warranty coverage period for passenger cars and light duty trucks is comprehensive and covers parts like catalytic converters, electronic emissions control units, and onboard emissions diagnostic devices.
  • Diesel Engine Coverage: If you purchase a Ford car with a direct-injection diesel engine, the diesel engine coverage protects the engine from damage.
  • Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Unique Component Coverage: The components in the electric drivetrain system of your Ford car will vary depending on whether your vehicle is a hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or all-electric vehicle. Whatever you drive, the coverage protects the parts from damage.
  • New Vehicle Limited Warranty: Covers all parts on the vehicle that require repair, replacement, or adjustment as a result of a manufacturing defect in factory-supplied materials of factory workmanship.
  • Safety Restraint Warranty: Under this factory warranty, the Ford vehicle’s supplement restraint system and safety belts are covered for five years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first.
