Ford is at the forefront of creating automotive technologies that make driving easier and more stress-free. Formerly known as Active Drive Assist, Ford BlueCruise is a driver assist technology that allows for true hands-free driving on prequalified sections of divided highways called Hands-Free Blue Zones that make up over 130,000 miles of North American roads.

Here at Bill Colwell Ford, our dealers are happy to explain how Ford BlueCruise works.

How Ford BlueCruise Works

Ford’s intuitive BlueCruise technology builds upon the available Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go and Lane Centering and Speed Sign Recognition. It allows drivers to operate your vehicle hands-free while you are monitored by a driver-facing camera to make sure you’re keeping your eyes on the road. As the engineers at Ford continue to work on this technology, there is potential for more enhancements in the future.

It works on many major highways in Iowa, including I-80 and others. In total, the Blue Zones cover about 130,000 miles in North America. The system can accelerate, steer, and stop your vehicle as traffic and road conditions dictate.

To get started with the BlueCruise system, when the blue light turns on indicating that you are on a Blue Zone road, you set your desired speed and the system activates. While the system is not fully autonomous and you should still keep your eyes on the road, it makes long highway drives easier.

Ford BlueCruise Availability

Because BlueCruise is a new and constantly evolving technology, it is currently only available on two models, high-end versions of the Ford F-150, such as the Platinum trim, and the Ford Mustang Mach-E all-electric SUV.

Try out the BlueCruise technology for yourself by taking an eligible Ford vehicle for a test drive here at Bill Colwell Ford.
