Over the last several years, Ford engineers have worked to bring Ford SYNC to its automobiles, and the result has been a more helpful, more entertaining series of Ford vehicles to drive. Of course, every year Ford undergoes updates to the system, and your Bill Colwell Ford service experts will need to know which version you’re working with to help you troubleshoot. Or, perhaps you just would like to know which features are available to you in your present vehicle.

Thankfully, there are a few easy ways to tell which version of Ford SYNC you have.

What is Ford SYNC?

Put simply, Ford SYNC uses Bluetooth® wireless technology to pass information between your vehicle and your phone. It allows voice commands to control certain apps and bring the smartphone functionality you love for navigation, music, and other features directly into your vehicle’s operating system.

Which Version of Ford SYNC Do I Have?

There are four main versions of Ford SYNC currently available. These include:

  • SYNC with MyFord®
  • SYNC with Voice-Activated Navigation
  • SYNC with MyFord Touch®
  • SYNC® 3

Every iteration does great things, but there are a few things to look for to determine which iteration you have.

Identifying by Display

Sometimes, you can tell which version you have simply by looking at the display monitor.

SYNC has a center display that shows basic information like caller ID, song titles, a digital clock and temperature.

SYNC with Voice-Activated Navigation has a color navigation screen in the center console that displays maps and landmark icons.

SYNC with My Ford Touch has an interacting 8-inch color touchscreen in the center console, and SYNC 3 uses a touchscreen that provides at-a-glance access to a Phone, Audio, and Navigation status, if properly equipped.

It really is as simple as that, but if you have any questions about which version of Ford Sync you have, reach out to our Ford dealers in Hudson, IA for clarification!
