HUDSON, IA — A new Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center is now open in the Hudson Community School District thanks to generous support from local businesses.
The facility is a major upgrade from the district’s previous space. It includes industry-standard equipment donated by Bill Colwell Ford and Holmes Welding & Fabrication to ensure students have access to the tools used by today’s workforce.
Bill Colwell Ford contributed more than $30,000 in brand-new automotive tools and equipment, including a Hunter Engineering Company SmartWeight wheel balancer, a Hunter TCX51 professional tire changer, an Integrated Supply Network new technician tool kit, an Associated Equipment Corporation battery wheel charger, a Shure Manufacturing stationary workbench, a Shure Manufacturing heavy-duty vise, and a Rotary Solutions 10,000-pound asymmetric lift with all-vehicle arms.

“We’re proud to support the next generation of technicians and help give students access to the same equipment they’ll see in the field,” said Blake Colwell of Bill Colwell Ford. “Hands-on experience with industry-standard tools not only builds confidence, but also prepares students for real-world success. It’s an investment in their future and in the future of our community.”
Holmes Welding and Fabrication also donated thousands of dollars’ worth of welding and fabrication equipment to outfit the manufacturing and welding booths. The company is partnering with the district to design and add a new CNC plasma tool to replace outdated equipment.
“Our family is honored to donate welding equipment to the Hudson Community Schools in support of the next generation of skilled workers,” said Matt Holmes. “We believe that hands-on experience is essential for students pursuing careers in the trades, and we hope this contribution will provide meaningful opportunities for learning and growth.”
In addition to donations, several local businesses helped design and plan the new facility to ensure it reflects modern industry standards and supports career readiness.
“We are so fortunate for the donations and collaborations from our local businesses,” said Superintendent Dr. Tony Voss. “Our students now have the opportunity to use industry-standard equipment while gaining valuable, hands-on experience.”
Community members will be invited to tour the new CTE Center during back-to-school open house events this August.
