While the Ford F-150 remains the best-selling automobile in the United States, the Chevy Silverado is also among the top three. This means that customers in and around Hudson, IA can feel as though making a decision between the two is nearly impossible. Thankfully, when looking at the 2021 Ford F-150 vs the 2021 Chevy Silverado, it’s clear which vehicle reigns supreme, even into this new model year.

Power and Performance

Let’s start with what many people consider to be the premier features of pickup trucks: horsepower and torque. In previous model years, the Ford pickup was already beating its competition in terms of both numbers, but a new hybrid variant in 2021 combines a V6 engine and an electric motor to create a class-leading drivetrain capable of producing 430 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque. Non-hybrid engines also produce consistently higher numbers than their Chevy Silverado counterparts.

Furthermore, Chevrolet doesn’t offer any sort of hybrid Chevy Silverado 1500. Its engines are perfectly fine, but pound for pound, the Ford F-150 is more powerful.

Towing & Payload

Another important consideration is maximum towing numbers, and while there are several different drivetrains and trims levels, let’s have a look at the maximum numbers. The 2021 Ford F-150 and its 3.5-liter V6 tops out at 14,000 pounds of towing capacity, while the 2021 Chevy Silverado and its 6.2-liter V8 top out at 13,300 pounds.

Meanwhile, the Ford F-150 can haul as much as 3,325 pounds, while the Chevy Silverado makes out at just 2,280 pounds.

Making a Decision Between Pickups

While we know power isn’t everything, these performance numbers should have drivers rushing to their Ford dealer to take home the clear winner in the wars between pickup trucks. The Ford F-150 is the top-selling vehicle in the U.S. for good reason, and the 2021 model year version makes that clearer than ever.
