All things considered, having a windshield wiper or two replaced is one of the more affordable items we can help with at the Quick Lane Tire & Auto Center located at Bill Colwell Ford, but that doesn’t mean drivers are interested in purchasing new ones every two weeks. There are some things drivers can do to keep their wipers healthy and make the most of their performance, and we’d like to spell them out for our Hudson Ford drivers:

How to Make Wipers Last Longer

First, there are a few things you can do make your windshield wipers last longer. These include:

  1. Lift your wipers when it snows or ices.
  2. Don’t scrape off your windshield while the blades are down to avoid damaging them.
  3. Park your car in the shade to avoid the sun damaging the rubber.
  4. Don’t operate your wipers on a dry windshield.

How to Properly Clean Wiper Blades

Another way to keep your wipers in tip-top shape is to clean them occasionally. The best way to do that with your Ford vehicle is to follow these two, simple steps:

  • Lift the wiper blade and clean the entire glass and blades using a neutral detergent and a soft cloth. Then, rinse with clean water.
  • In extreme cases, use an abrasive, non-chlorinated solution and a sponge.

Replacing Your Wipers

Of course, sometimes, wiper blades just need to be replaced. If that’s the case, contact us and we’ll get you in for an appointment ASAP. Like we said, this is an incredibly quick and affordable service, so if your windshield wipers have run their course and need replacement, we can take care of that for you. That way, you’ll keep your windshield clear during heavy precipitation or when road salt mucks up your view of the highway.
