We live in a world where gas prices can fluctuate on a dime, to say nothing about how fuel consumption can impact the environment. Many drivers, when given the choice, would rather conserve fuel than not, and as your Ford dealer serving Hudson, IA, we are happy to offer our customers a few tips for how best to go about doing that.
Four Tips for Saving Fuel
#1 Drive Less Aggressively
Accelerating smoothly is one of the easiest ways to save fuel. In fact, by simply driving less aggressively, drivers can save up to 33% more fuel. Get that lead foot off the pedal, brake smoothly and earlier, and enjoy the fuel savings that come as a result!
#2 Drive at Optimal Speed Limits
Fuel efficiency decreases for drivers who go over 50 MPH, and while we’d never ask drivers to drive below the speed limit, drivers pay the equivalent of an additional 26 cents per gallon for every 5 MPH over 50 MPH that they drive.
#3 Only Use Air Conditioning While Driving on the Highway
Accessories like A/C burn fuel, and drivers can conserve up to 15% more fuel by using air conditioning only the highway. Rolling down the windows at low speeds is a more efficient way to stay cool as long as it’s not too hot outside.
#4 Reduce Weight and Drag
The less weight you’re lugging around, the more efficient your car will be. Furthermore, by reducing drag—either through rolling up your windows on the highway, removing a roof carrier, or keeping the convertible top up at high speeds.
