Ford tires can be the sort of thing that drivers in and around Hudson, IA take for granted, but the quality and condition of those tires have a lot to do with the safety one can enjoy when behind the wheel of a Ford vehicle. That’s why it’s so important to take good care of those tires, and here at Bill Colwell Ford, we’d like to offer the following advice to help make sure that’s exactly what happens with you and your Ford truck, SUV, or car.

Checking the Condition of Tires

One way to maintain high-quality tires is to just check the air pressure at least once a month. We make this recommendation for two reasons:

  1. Tires lose an average of 1 PSI of air pressure each month.
  2. Tires lose an average of 1 PSI for every ten-degree drop in outside temperature.

Underinflated tires are more at risk of flat tires, they decrease fuel efficiency, and they decrease the longevity of the product. So if you find that one or more tires are underinflated, find your way to your nearest gas station to fill them up to the recommended PSI.

Knowing When to Replace Tires

Sometimes, tires require replacement, either because they’re too old or because they’re too worn down.

Hudson Ford owners can have their tread checked at every oil change to determine if replacements are coming up, but we do recommend having tires replaced after six years, regardless of how often they’ve been used. The same goes for your spare. The quality of rubber degrades over time, which means even tires with great tread can bad if they aren’t new enough.
